Aber Under 12s v Lampeter

U12’s  - Aberystwyth V Lampeter Sunday 6 November 2016

On crisp autumn morning Aberystwyth U12’s entertained Lampeter in their first game of 15 a-side rugby on a full pitch, quite a daunting prospect for a few. Before the game the players and parents under took a sweep of the pitch to remove debris following Saturday nights firework display.

A poignant minute's silence was observed for Eifion which was perfectly respected by both sets of young players and spectators.

Aber won the toss and elected to play away from the club house in the first half, Lampeter on receiving the kick off played a narrow game which allowed Aber’s back row to turn the ball over which allowed Aber’s back line to string a passing movement together which saw openside Ruben Meaney able to crash over for the first score wide out, conversion missed.
This kicked started Lampeter who put together 10 minutes of stylish rugby as they completely out played Aber in all departments to score two well created tries of which one was converted.

As half time approached Lampeter stared to construct another flowing movement which was stopped by a bone crunching tackle from Aber’s No 8 Osain Bebb Worrall which dislodged the ball which fell nicely to Aber’s centre Sion Gould who beat three defenders to raced away to score under the posts. With a successful conversion bring the teams level at half time.
From the re-start Aber’s rucking improved which allowed scrum half Owen Pugh to feed his backs allowing centre Will Beckham to cut though Lampeter’s centre partnership to cross out wide, conversion unsuccessful. Aber’s backs started to come more into the game as outside half Reuben Price created some space which allowed him to feed wing Shane Griffiths who went on a weaving run only to be brought down a yard short but he was able to off-loaded to the supporting Price to score, who was successful with the conversion.

The final try was a gem as Aber built the phases with some powerful carries from hooker Adam Bradley and Worrall allowing Price to jink this way though a disorganised defence to cross wide out, with the final conversion being successful ref Richard Morris blew the final whistle which saw Aber run out 31-12 winners.
