U14s Win In Lampeter

Aberystwyth 25-14 Lampeter

On a bitterly cold Friday evening Aber U14s travelled down to Lampeter with nearly a full squad, it was anticipated as being a tough contest and it sure didn't disappoint.

Two well matched teams with scores to settle, it was a game in which each side knew that any mistakes would see them back defending their own line. It was with this pressure that both sides produced some great rugby to a high standard with very few errors. The referee also played a part in this and had a great game.

Aber scored first though a determined forward drive which sucked in the defence. The ball was quickly released and passed effectively along the back line to winger Rhys James, who squeezed into the left corner.

Lampeter immediately hit back, scoring two excellent tries from deep in their own half. It looked like they would score a third but loan Morris, Aber’s No 8, had other ideas, intercepting to set up another Aber attack which saw a determined Josh Balla twist over from short range.

Lampeter scored their third try right on half time to take a slim lead into the break.

Aber came out and scored twice in quick sucession though Sion Evans and Aled Phillips.  Lampeter threw everything at Aber but the tremendous work by the forwards started to take its toll on the opposition, which then created space for the dangerous backs to mount attacks from deep. This saw Phillips score his second try, throwing an outrageous dummy to score underneath the posts.

Aberystwyth wish to thank Lampeter for the great reception they received. Diolch.
